Primarily a bittering hop that is the most popular hop in England. It accounts for as much as 40% of Englands entire hop production. Used mostly for bittering because of it's high Alpha Acid content, it has a nice aroma in spite of it, though quite intense. It’s a widely used ale hop in the U.K. for its high alpha acid content for Bittering and its Zesty Aromatic characteristics. Commonly used in British and American Ales and Lagers. A good commercial example is Young's Special London Ale.
Good Substitute: Fuggle, Willamette, and perhaps East Kent Goldings.
